Turning Torso

TURNING TORSO- The Highest Construction in Malmö-Sweden.

The architect behind Turning Torso is Santiago Calatrava.
Based on a sculpture that he had made years ago, Turning Torso is a residential and commercial tower that is the highest building in Malmö, Sweden. At over 50 stories, this building is easily Calatrava's largest, and is a rare foray into residential design.
One of the unusual benefits of the twisting form of the building is that potential residents get to choose their view. Those who prefer a view of the water from their bedroom might select an apartment on one floor, while those with a desire to overlook land might opt for a similar
apartment on a different floor.

Height: 623.3 ft (190.0 m)Average Floor Area: 4305.5 ft² (400.0 m²)Total Residential Space: 157153 ft² (14,599.5 m²)Total Office Space: 45208.4 ft² (4,199.9 m²)

The architect behind Turning Torso is Santiago Calatrava, one of the most fascinating architects of our time. He is internationally renowned for a series of remarkable and architecturally innovative projects.
He has a comprehensive training as a sculptor, architect and civil engineer, a background that enables him to be the principle construction manager in the exciting and technically advanced buildings he designs. Based in Zurich, Paris and Valencia.
Santiago Calatrava creates his work with the eye of the sculptor and is inspired by both animals and humans and their natural movements. By combining the free forms of art with strict geometry and modern material technologies, he crosses boundaries and constructs unique and fascinating buildings. Amongst his most celebrated works are a number of bridges, railway stations, communications towers and air traffic control towers.
Turning Torso started as a sculpture by Santiago Calatrava, shaped with inspiration from the human body in a twisting movement. From this original sculpture, called Twisting Torso, there is now a residential building being developed in partnership with HSB Malmö (Private Housing Association), which is set to be one of northern Europe's most exciting buildings.

BO-O1 is the area where you can find and admire the highest and one of the most controversial buildings in Malmö - Turning Torso. I took all these pictures during one sunny day and I still wonder who has so much courage to live in such a high and seemingly fragile construction, well... after all those terror attacks we could witness lately.
Anyway, this is really something special for Sweden since a typical Swede doesn't like very much to accomplish such unusual and extreme things.

BO-O1 to dzielnica, w ktorej znajduje sie najwyzsza i jedna z najbardziej kontrowersyjnych budowli w Malmö - Turning Torso.

It's me against a background of BO-O1 area in Malmö where Turning Torso is.

To ja na tle dzielnicy BO-O1 w Malmö, gdzie znajduje sie Turning Torso.

Fascynujące. Zapewne będzie, chcąc nie chcąc, nowym symbolem Malmoe. Tak jak słynny "żaglowiec" w Dubaiu.
